Jesus had predicted His death 3 times going into Jerusalem
1. Jesus’ Prediction
I’m gonna die in Jerusalem and rise again
He rode a donkey, symbolizing what a king would do in times of peace.
2. The Crowd’s Reaction
Palm branches.
All hype - here is the One that will overthrow the Roman governor
Hype without truth is hopeless. There are still a large number of people that miss the point of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem. Anyone can get excited about Jesus when they are misinformed about Who He is and what His purpose is. It is not to give people an “every day is friday life”. It is not to give people prosperity. It is not to modify behavior. His entry into Jerusalem was to be the slain lamb that takes away the sin of the world.
Their response, had they really known what Jesus was coming to do (and remember, we would have joined their cries BOTH times), they would have cried “save me! Or thank You!”
"the people failed to understand was that the king had come to defeat a much greater enemy than Rome—an enemy that knew no national boundaries or respected no political or sectarian differences" https://ref.ly/o/hntc61mt/812010?length=192
The people were mistaken.
